World premiere at the Staatstheater Braunschweig – New variation by Ulrike Merk as part of Diabelli Recomposed
Diabelli Recomposed – 50th Premiere at the Braunschweig State Theater
Braunschweig pianist and musicologist Claudia Bigos took the 200th anniversary of the Diabelli Variations as an occasion for a composition call to women composers, which she called “Diabelli Recomposed.” She was curious to see how women composers today would address this waltz theme. 50 women composers from 22 countries (see list) participated and submitted recent variations.
All 50 premieres of the project “Diabelli Recomposed” will be interpreted by 10 students of the piano class of Prof. Ewa Kupiec (University of Music and Performing Arts Hannover – HMTMH) on November 5, 2023 in a festive concert at the Staatstheater Braunschweig (see link).
The results were so extremely exciting and diverse that the Furore-Verlag Kassel will publish these new variations in an anthology and present them on 18.10.2023 at the Frankfurt Book Fair (see link).
