Ulrike Merk (guitarist, composer, musicologist)

To work as a musician in the musical fields of interpretation, composition and scientific research is nothing incompatible, but rather a great mutual enrichment of each individual discipline. A foundation on which one can move freely artistically.

Ulrike Merk gives concerts as a soloist and chamber musician at home and abroad.
As a composer she does not limit herself to the guitar and received an international composition prize for her composition “music for six” for wind sextet.
She has published her own works, first editions and arrangements with Furore Verlag and with Doblinger/Wien and Verlag Neue Musik Berlin.
The CD “ay amor” by the Duo Arcadie (with Franziska Markowitsch – Mezzosoprano) has been released by TYXart (Distribution: Note1). In addition to Spanish music by de Falla, García Lorca, Rodrigo, Mompou, Ruiz-Pipó, Narváez and Vasquez, the two musicians have also recorded arrangements of Sephardic songs by Ulrike Merk on this CD.
This is already the second CD with a recording of an own arrangement. This was preceded by the recording of “Frühe Französische Lieder” by Fanny Hensel born Mendelssohn for ARS-Produktion (Distribution: “Note 1”).
Ulrike Merk was a lecturer at the UdK-Berlin from 2003 to 2015 and works as a teacher for guitar and composition.

She received her Dr. phil. degree at the UdK-Berlin with a research paper on the guitaristic repertoire in the 20th century.
